Advanced Trauma Training: Mental Health Impacts of Trafficking

The psychological impact of experiences of sexual exploitation and sex trafficking is under-researched, particularly in regards to long-term survivors and survivor leaders, creating additional challenges in being effective allies and providers of care to the community. This training utilizes Dr. Greenbaum’s dissertation research on the mental health impacts of trafficking to help illuminate considerations when working with survivors of sexual exploitation. Topics discussed include betrayal, stigmatization, traumatic sexualization, and powerlessness as well as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anger, and trauma-related attachments.
